WELCOME TO THE DAILY TELEGRAPH JUNIOR GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP 07 in association with the Royal Bank of Scotland Group
The Daily Telegraph Junior Championship in association with The Royal Bank of Scotland Group continues to go from strength to strength, maintaining its position as the best tournament in the world for Under-18 golfers of all abilities. If you fancy having a go, don't be intimidated by the fact that it attracts around 43,000 entries. There is always a place for everyone.
The roll call of winners is pretty special for it features golfers like Justin Rose, Andrew Coltart and Mhairi McKay who have gone on to represent their country or continent in all the sport's team events. The Ryder Cup, Walker Cup, Solheim Cup and Curtis Cup teams have all featured players who first made their mark in Telegraph colours.
TAKING PART
There are approximately 1,200 local qualifying events spread all over the country and which run from the March until August. The format of the qualifying competitions is stroke play with the best gross score by a girl and/or boy joining the national leaderboard. Your club should have received an information pack by the end of March so if they're not running an event, ask them why not…..it's not too late for them to still stage one - all they need to do is call the Championship Hotline on 02392 233 798 for their pack.
LEADERBOARDS
The winning score from each qualifying event goes onto the leaderboards that will be published over the next few months and throughout the summer illustrating the state of play: come the crunch, 12 boys and nine girls will qualify for the 54 hole strokeplay Final.
THE FINAL
The prize for the lucky 21 players who make it to the final - the climax of the Championship is the chance to participate in the trip of a lifetime and take on the other finalists over the world-class track at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club. With caddies, media interest and high temperatures, it is a taste of what life is like as a professional.
More detailed information can be found on this site about taking part…….with over 43,000 competitors, the odds may seem long, but that's what some of the 2006 finalists were thinking this time last year. They entered and made the finals. You have to be in it to win it…..so pick up your clubs today and who knows come October you could be packing your cases for the experience of a lifetime!
