Who can enter?

If you were under 18 at midnight Jan 1, 2007 you are eligible. You must have a handicap of 28 or less if you are a boy, or 36 or less if you are a girl. You must be a permanent resident of the UK or Republic of Ireland.

How do I get a handicap?

Ask at your local golf club or a golf association

How can I enter?

First ask the junior organiser at your club if he intends to hold a qualifier, if so you can enter there. You can also enter at any golf club holding an open competition. Lists of these will be found on the website and will be regularly updated. Look to see if they accept boys, boys and girls or only girls before contacting the club for an entry form. You can also call the helpline.

Can I enter more than once?

Yes, you can enter as many times as you like to try for a better score. All winning scores will go on to the national leaderboard a few days after they have been received from the club. You can check your position on the website. Leaderboards will be updated regularly, but remember, we cannot put your score on until it has been received and verified.

Can a club hold more than one qualifier?

No.

Will my score count?

All winners - whatever their score - will have their scores put on to the leaderboard. Before they are put on, they will be thoroughly checked and scrutinised. The score card sent in with the results sheets must be the original card, signed by the club captain and junior organiser with the CSS for the day clearly written on the card..

If the winner's score is not good enough to reach the final does the club have to send in the results?

Yes, or the winner will not be shown on the website or in the Daily Telegraph.

What is the minimum entry for a competition?

Five boys are needed to make up a competition. There are special rules for girls. Details of these are in the information pack sent to each junior organiser or see the rules on this site.

How do I get an information pack?

The information packs are sent to the junior organisers of every club in the UK and ROI. They are not sent to other individuals. If you are an organiser and you have not received one by the end of March please call the helpline or send an email.

Is there a charge?

No charge is made to the club by the sponsors but a club may charge you a fee to enter. Check with the club.

How do you score?

Boys play off the medal tees, girls play off the LGU tees and the competition standard scratch score is calculated for the day.

How is the CSS for the day calculated?

Clubs will use a special table for this calculation. If in doubt refer to the respective captains.

Does my handicap count when scoring?

All scores are gross scores for this championship and handicaps are not taken into consideration, except for entry purposes

What if I am the only girl there?

One girl entering alone may play alongside the boys. She plays off of the LGU tees and must be marked by a boy aged 15 or over, or with a handicap of 12 or less. The junior organiser will have a special rule sheet for girls' competitions.

We only have a nine hole course?

The competition is held over 18 holes but you may stage a qualifier as long as the total course measures at least 3,000 yards.

Can we enter even though we have a short course?

You may hold a qualifier and we will supply prizes but unfortunately your scores will not be eiligible for the leaderboard if your course is under 3,000 yards.

Can we invite players from other clubs in the area?

You can open your competition to other clubs in your area or to players from anywhere in the country.

What if we cannot hold an open competition?

You may attach our competition to your monthly medal.

Can we use a caddy?

No you may not, and parents are not allowed to walk round with a player.

Who qualifies for a place in the final?

In 2006, 12 boys and nine girls will qualify for a place in the final. The 12 boys will be made up of the top 10 boys from the national leaderboard, plus the 2005 defending champion OLIVER FISHER and one sponsors' invite decided at the discretion of the championship committee. The nine girls will be made up of the top seven girls from the national leaderboard, plus the 2005 defending champion JODI EWART and one sponsors' invite decided at the discretion of the championship committee.

Are there regional qualifying events?

No, the 21 finalists qualify from the national leaderboard and the sponsors invitations (see above point).
